When a sedimentary material known as chert forms in extensive bedded deposits, and as an opaque variety of chalcedony it receives the name "jasper." Jaspers are also known to form when volcanic ash is cemented into a solid material from the precipitation of silica from solution.

As with all jaspers, yellow jasper is also a very protective stone. Yellow Jasper is often called the traveler's stone. It helps to protect during physical or astral travel. It is also a good stone for purification, in purifying the body and mind to strengthen it for changes to come.
