Kyanite is a silicate mineral found mostly in sedimentary rocks due to metamorphism of continental plates rubbing together. Kyanite requires an immense amount of pressure to form. Kyanite is an interesting stone in that it is strongly anisotropic, which means that it's hardness depends on the angle of the crystal. Blue Kyanite is the most common color, but it can form in black, green, clear and rarely purple.
