Senna Leaf comes from the plant known by the Latin botanical name of Senna alexandrina. It is also commonly known as wild senna, locust plant and American senna. Starwest directly sources our Senna alexandrina from our suppliers in Egypt, and then we process the Senna Leaf ourselves in-house at our processing facility, allowing us to supervise the process in its entirety in order to bring you the highest quality dried herbs on the market today.

Senna encourages bowel movement by inhibiting the smooth muscles that retain stool and stimulating the smooth muscles that push stool through the intestine. The herb doesn't work unless the sennosides in the herb are transformed into rheinanthrones by beneficial bacteria in the colon. The leaf of senna is fairly powerful and for a more mild effect, it is recommended that you use the pods.
